Carbonara is the pasta specialist. Made in Italy is the Hoole answer. Piccolino and Pesto are easier family or group fallbacks; the familiar chains still have a job when logistics win.

The cathedral-side trattoria answer when the group wants pasta, pizza and a proper Chester meal without making the brief too clever.
Sergio is the safest all-round Italian choice: family-run, central, familiar in the best sense and broad enough for dates, families, groups and people who just want the evening to behave itself. It is not the most specialist choice on the list, which is exactly why it works so often.
Use this when nobody wants to gamble. If pizza is the whole point, go to Stile; if pasta is the point, look hard at Carbonara.

BEST BIG TRADITIONAL MEAL
La Fattoria is the louder Lower Bridge Street classic: big menu, big room energy, pasta, pizza, fish, meat and the feeling that the booking was not made by committee after all.
BEST PIZZA-FIRST CHOICE
Stile Napoletano is the cleaner answer when pizza is the whole reason for going out: short focus, proper oven energy and less menu wandering than the catch-all Italian places.

Stile Napoletano is the strongest pizza-first restaurant choice. Mercato Pizza Co is useful for a more casual Chester Market version of the plan.
Pacinos is the useful station-side answer. Made in Italy is the Hoole answer when you want a proper Italian meal north-east of the centre.
La Fattoria can work well for families who want a proper meal. Piccolino, Pesto at the Yacht, Bella Italia and Pizza Express are easier logistical fallbacks.
