What it's like
Axt Haus is Chester’s German-themed indoor axe-throwing venue in the Kitchen Street railway arches, with hosted throwing sessions, private lane hire, food, drink and group-event options.
The appeal is simple: turn up, sign the waiver, get briefed, practise, then spend an hour trying to make a small axe land where your confidence said it would.
It is beginner-friendly because the instructors run the session and keep the lane under control. It is also rule-heavy for good reason: closed-toe shoes, no throwing after drinking, no messing about in the lane and no waiver means no throw.
Worth knowing
Axt Haus sounds chaotic, but the useful version is controlled: waivers, instructors, safety briefing, closed shoes and a firm no to throwing while intoxicated. Follow that and it is a very solid group booking.

How to use it
- Book the right format: mixed lane for a smaller standard session, exclusive lane for a party group, private hire for the full work-social version.
- Make everyone arrive early, wearing closed-toe shoes and ready to sign the waiver.
- Keep alcohol until after the throwing session. That is not a vibe choice; it is the rule.
- Use Watergate Street, the racecourse side or the centre for food and drinks afterwards if the on-site plan is not enough.
