Storyhouse’s open-air cinema is back, and this year the summer kicks off on a rooftop. Moonlight Flicks at Rooftop Social Club runs Thursday nights from 14 May to 25 June 2026, on top of the Pepper Street Car Park.
If that sounds unglamorous, it is not. Rooftop Social Club has turned the top deck into one of the better warm-weather hangs in the city: independent food traders, three bars run by Liquor and Co, and a view over the rooftops. Add a film at sundown and you have got a proper Thursday.
The line-up
The opener on 14 May is Dirty Dancing, which is a sensible start. Sinners follows on 21 May - Ryan Coogler’s vampire-blues thing, and the wildcard of the run - then Back to the Future on 28 May, Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet on 4 June, Thelma & Louise on 11 June, Drive on 18 June, and 10 Things I Hate About You closing it out on 25 June.
All screenings start at 7pm.
The practical bits
Seating is included with every ticket, so do not bring a chair. Dogs are allowed and do not need a ticket. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible - lift, platform stair lift and accessible toilets - and free Essential Companion tickets are available via Storyhouse’s Access Register.
Rain policy: the call is made by 5pm on the day. Light drizzle, they go ahead. Stormy weather, they do not. Refunds are only offered if a screening is cancelled, so book with at least one eye on the forecast.
Postcode is CH1 1DF. Chester Station is around 17 minutes on foot; the Bus Interchange is closer to 10.
Rooftop Social Club — Rooftop Social Club is the city-centre rooftop answer for food, drinks, games and a view without pretending Pepper Street Car Park was ever Tuscany.
